Is Nair Better Than Shaving?

As great of an invention as shaving is, sometimes it can be more hassle than worth it.

For most people, if they opt to shave, they are going to have to do it every day and that can quickly get very tedious.

But what other options are there? Well, there’s waxing, but lots of people don’t like the discomfort that comes with it, so what else can you do?

Have you ever heard of Nair before?

Whether you have or you haven’t, we’ll be going over everything you need to know about Nair and we’ll finally be settling the debate on if Nair is better than shaving. So let’s get started!

What Is Nair?

If you’re new to hair removal, there’s a good chance you haven’t actually heard of Nair before. Nair is a hair removal cream that is manufactured by Church & Dwight.

Originally it was just targeted toward women, but in 2001, a line of Nair products for men was introduced.

Nair belongs to a family of products known as depilatory creams.

These creams are designed to remove hair from all over the body without the need to shave or wax.

Nair cream and other depilatory creams are not designed for the sensitive skin in your pubic region or face though, so if you’re looking for a quick fix in that department, you will need to look elsewhere.

But in terms of the other areas of your body, lots of people actually prefer Nair to shaving, which we’ll get into soon.

Is Nair Better Than Shaving?

So, is Nair better than shaving? Well, shaving does have its own charm and you can use a razor on all parts of your body, but overall, Nair is much better.

Shaving only cuts your hair off at the surface of the skin, which is why it grows back so quickly.

Nair on the other hand, like other depilatory creams, weaken the hair structure from just below the skin’s surface, so it lasts just a little longer than shaving.

The cream also exfoliates your skin to help it avoid irritation.

It might not seem like a huge difference, but if you test it out for yourself, you’ll see just how convenient Nair is in comparison to shaving.

There are plenty of other factors that make Nair better than shaving, so let’s take a look at them.

Longer Lasting

As we’ve already mentioned, Nair lasts a bit longer than shaving.

Most people who shave will tell you that they have to shave every single day, but Nair gives you a breathing period where you won’t have to remove the hair again for a couple of days.

In some cases, you will find stubble grows back on the same day as shaving, especially if you have darker or thicker hair.

If you use Nair, you can avoid this altogether. No one likes to shave every single day, it is a lot of hard work and can become a massive chore.

Prevents Common Skin Irritations

Another common problem with shaving is it can cause a lot of skin irritation.

There are so many issues that can arise from shaving, some of the most common include ingrown hairs, nicks, cuts, and the annoying razor stubble.

Nair takes all these problems away and you don’t have to deal with them at all.

This means that you don’t have to wait for the skin irritations to die down and you can remove any hair without causing further irritation.

If you are planning on making the switch to Nair, make sure that you don’t have any skin irritations before you apply it.

If your skin is irritated, inflamed, sunburned, or anything along these lines, wait until it’s fully healed before you apply the hair removal cream.

How Does Hair Removal Cream Work?

How Does Hair Removal Cream Work?

Nair and hair removal creams of all kinds probably seem like some sort of sorcery by this point, and lots of people believe that they are too good to be true at first.

But once you understand how they work, their effectiveness starts to make sense.

As previously mentioned, Nair is a kind of depilatory cream.

These creams are filled with ingredients such as sodium thioglycolate, calcium thioglycolate, and strontium sulfide.

All of these ingredients are designed to target the hair and break down its protein structure. The proteins are known as keratin.

The depilatory cream quite literally targets the hair and dissolves it.

When you use hair removal cream and you start to notice an egg-like smell in the air, that is a direct result of the dissolving process.

As soon as the depilatory cream dissolves the keratin, the hair follicles become loose and jelly-like, which allows you to wipe them off, no razor required.

It might seem like magic, but it’s all science! Depilatory creams are truly a wonderful concoction that definitely deserves more admiration.

How To Use Hair Removal Cream Safely?

So if you have decided that you want to use Nair instead of shaving, it’s important that you know how to use it safely.

The chemicals that are found in depilatory creams can be quite strong and can be a potential risk to skin that is more sensitive. In some cases, it can lead to redness, irritation, and burns.

Before you take the full plunge into using depilatory creams, you have to make sure that you perform a patch test first.

Realistically, you should allow your skin 24 hours in between the patch test and actually using it, to make sure that your skin can handle it.

You also need to avoid using the cream anywhere near your genitals, eyes, or nose, so be mindful of that when you’re applying it.

Conclusion

While shaving can be useful, Nair is by far the superior way of removing body hair.

It lasts a lot longer than shaving, allowing you to have a break in grooming, and it’s also less likely to leave common skin irritations behind.

If you’re still on the fence, get some Nair and try it out for yourself!
