Can Asians Grow Beards?

There is a common myth that Asians can’t grow beards but although they are still quite rare, it’s definitely possible for most Asian man to grow a beard.

We spotted some great Asian beard styles that are worth looking at if you want to grow your beard.

Can Asians Grow Beards

In this article, we take a look at why so many believe that Asian men cannot grow beards and we also explore a range of different Asian beard styles.

Can An Asian Man Grow A Beard?

Yes, Asian men can grow beards, although it’s worth saying here that it’s a little more difficult for many Asians to grow a beard quickly.

However, it’s still possible to grow a good Asian guy beard when you allow plenty of time.

Why Asian Men Struggle Growing A Beard

The growth of facial hair is dependent on our hormone levels, including testosterone.

There have been a number of global studies that look at the different testosterone levels in Caucasians, Asians and other men around the world.

They found that the testosterone levels didn’t differ so much between Caucasian and Asian men.

However, Asian men produce less of an important enzyme which is usually responsible for facial hair growth.

In addition, Asian men also have fewer sensitive receptors in their face, which makes it difficult for the beard growing hormones to stimulate the beard follicle cells.

All this combined means that Asian men have a hard time growing facial but it’s important to remember that it’s not impossible.

Best Ways For Asian Men To Grow More Beard

So, what can you do to encourage your beard to grow fuller and faster? There are generally three good options we found worked.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil has been around for a while and it’s one of the most popular facial hair growth product on the market.

It was originally designed to treat ulcers but researchers found that the drug improved blood circulation with the side effect that it also helps body hair to grow.

That’s why, it’s so popular with balding men today, and anyone who wants to grow more facial hair.

Minoxidil is the go-to drug for many men today when they want to stimulate hair growth.

Although there have been several studies on the drug, it’s still not 100% clear how it works with facial hair growth but it’s assumed that minoxidil stimulates the hair follicles through a better blood circulation.

Beard Roller

If you are not keen on drugs, such as minoxidil, then a beard roller is a more traditional method to encourage more beard growth.

A beard roller uses tiny needles to puncture painless little holes into the top surface of your skin.

This activates the blood circulation in this area and hormone rich blood will stimulate the hair follicles which will help grow your hair.

There are a range of different types of rollers with different needle sizes. We found the best needle size for bread growth is between 0.25mm and 0.75mm.

Mucuna Pruriens

Part of the bean family, mucuna pruriens is a herb which is typically used in Indian herbal medicine, such as Ayurveda.

Mucuna pruriens is said to improve sexual potency and testosterone levels. Studies have shown that this Ayurvedic herb increases the number and quality of sperms.

When it comes to beard growth, mucuna pruriens has been discovered to activate the sensitive receptors in an Asian man’s face.

This means, it encourages the growth of facial hair over time.

Asian Beard Styles

While Asian men may need to try a few tricks to grow a full beard, there are plenty of different beard styles.

Here are a few Asian facial hair styles that we love.

Can Asians Grow Beards (1)

Goatee Asian Beard

The Asian goatee is one of the most popular beard styles in Asia and around the world. You don’t need to grow a lot of facial hair to style it into a goatee.

Short Beard

It doesn’t take much facial hair to grow a short beard without much styling. You can create a masculine appearance by just growing your facial hair for a few days.

You can then trim it to the length you like. Alternatively, you can also go shorter by just growing a stubble.

If you struggle to grow a full Asian beard, then a stubble is a good option as it gives you a masculine vibe but you won’t look too unkempt.

Asian Mustache

You can never go wrong with a traditional mustache, although it’s worth saying here that an Asian mustache style isn’t quite the same as anywhere else around the world.

It features a thin strip of facial hair above the top lip creating a beautifully neat and elegant look.

One of the more unusual Asian mustaches is the Fu Manchu mustache.

Full Asian Beard

Sadly not every Asian man can grow a full Asian beard but if you can manage it in some way, you are definitely going to be the center of attention.

Asian full beards are quite rare and unique as you need to put quite a bit of effort and time into your facial hair.

With a full Korean beard, you also have quite a few different style option. For example, you can turn your full beard into a faded Asian beard.

Soul Patch Beard

You don’t see many Asian men with a beard patch, so it’s important that you make sure that this beard style suits you personally.

Chinstrap Beard

A chainstrap beard makes your face look longer and it also frames the face nicely. An added bonus with this Asian beard style is that you don’t need to grow much facial hair.

You can even pair it with a narrow mustache to create a balanced look.

Final Thoughts

While Asians can grow beards, it takes a little more time and effort for an Asian man to grow facial hair due to their genetics.

Bear in mind, facial hair is very individual, so some men are lucky to have a full beard while others can only grow a small beard with less facial hair.
